Sugarhouse Walking Video

By Laura Moncur @ 5:00 am — Filed under:

Just in case you missed it, I finished filming a new walking video. I talked about it here:

This video is almost three minutes long and shows some of the highlights of the DVD:

Total Mileage: 2.18 miles
Average Speed: 2.8 mph
Time: 47:00 Minutes

In this video, I’m walking through the historical Sugarhouse shopping district. There are so many little details to notice in this video that I’m still finding new stuff even though I’ve worked out with it four times and I filmed the thing. You get to peek into shop windows, walk past the very busy Sugarhouse Coffee shop, avoid the sprinklers in the park, chase the ducks into the pond and dodge the early morning commuters.

I imagine this video is perfect on those days when you would like to take a run outside, but it’s too hot to breathe out there. It might also be good when it’s the middle of winter and you just want to remember what green grass looks like.

Sugarhouse Walk: Another Walking Video

By Laura Moncur @ 5:00 am — Filed under:

I have just finished filming the Sugarhouse Walk Video. Just like the Swami’s Beach Walk Video, this is a different kind of exercise video where there is no coach talking or irritating music. It’s just a walk around the historic Sugarhouse shopping district and Fairmont Park.

This video is WAY better than the Swami’s Beach Video, though. I had some people complain about the video quality and motion sickness on the Swami’s Beach Video. Since then, Mike got a new camera and it turns out to be an excellent choice for filming these walking videos. The anti-shake is so good that Mike said, “This video didn’t make me sick. I stopped watching it because I got bored.”

With a recommendation like that, how could you resist?

This video is almost three minutes long and shows some of the highlights of the video:

Another great addition to this video is that it has a DVD menu just like a “real” DVD. You can start the video at the beginning, or you can choose your workout duration (47, 40, 35, 30, 25, 20, 15 or 10 minute durations). While you’re watching the video, you can skip ahead using your DVD remote.

This time, I tested the video on the treadmill AND the exercise bike before posting it here. It works great with both because I consciously avoided walking on grass or over areas that a bike couldn’t go. When I exercised with this video on the exercise bike, it felt like I was riding my bike on a steep incline because I was going so slow. It actually worked for me and I wished that I could steer my handlebars in response to the turns.

Just like before, I’m offering this workout DVD for $5 plus shipping.

Wendy Bumgardner from About.com Reviews The Swami Beach Video

By Laura Moncur @ 5:00 am — Filed under:

I sent a copy of my walking video, Swami Beach, to Wendy Bumgardner from About.com. She reviewed the DVD here:

In her review, she said:

“Laura Moncur of the Starling Fitness blog has a new, inexpensive DVD for those who use a treadmill but want something better to look at than the wallpaper. The Swami Beach video is simply a video of walking on Swami Beach, no narration, just the point of view of a walker enjoying a beach stroll.”

It was a very kind interview because her personal review was that the bouncing made her a little motion sick. Ever since this feedback, I’ve been working on getting the next walking video smoother and less bouncy.

Stay tuned to see what I have in store for you!

Does The Swami’s Beach DVD Work With An Exercise Bike?

By Laura Moncur @ 5:00 am — Filed under:

I tried exercising with the Swami’s Beach DVD with my exercise bike for the first time on Sunday. I just can’t wait to tell you how it was!

It sucked!

Seriously, this is a pretty video where you get to see a lot of ocean and see interesting things along the way, but when I was exercising with my bike and watching it, it just didn’t do it for me. First off, there’s the huge staircase. I can’t even imagine going down that with a bike, so it just felt like I was watching a movie. Then, when we finally get walking on the beach, it didn’t feel right because riding a bike on sand is extremely difficult to balance on. I constantly felt like I was going to fall over because of the sand.

I had to turn it off after ten minutes or so.

I’ve walked and run with this video lots of times on the treadmill and just LOVE it. Every time I watch it, I notice something different and I was the one who filmed it. It’s amazing how much our minds filter our consciousness. I love the video on the treadmill, but it was thoroughly unpleasant on the bike.

I have two more videos in the works and BOTH of them have stairs. Next time I do filming, I need to make sure that I choose a course that is accessible to both walking and biking.

A New Kind of Exercise Video

By Laura Moncur @ 5:00 pm — Filed under:

I created this exercise video for me. I hate to listen to exercise gurus talking while I exercise. All I wanted was to be able to run on the treadmill and imagine that I was walking on a beach or running through the woods or strolling through a botanical garden. I just wanted something that would be quiet and let me enjoy the walk on my treadmill and a little pretty scenery on the way.

Last time we were in California, I took my friend’s video camera and walked along the beach for over 45 minutes. The result is a new kind of exercise video for me and you to enjoy. It’s a quiet walk along the beach. All you hear is the ambient noises of the area. There is no coach talking over the sound of the waves. It’s just you, the water, the wind and the sea birds.

This video is only a minute and a half, but it gives you an idea of what you will see.

I want this DVD to get out to as many people as possible, so I’m selling them for $5 plus shipping. If you workout with it once, it’s totally worth the price. If you enjoy it twice, then I’ve completed my mission.

I love this video and have worked out with it several times. Mike, however, didn’t like it and stopped it five minutes into the video. I gave it to a few people to test, hopefully they will comment on what they liked and didn’t like here so you can hear it straight from their mouths.

The DVD is 49:13 minutes long and will be shipped via U.S. mail. For only five bucks, you can take a vacation on the beach whenever you want. If you want to buy one, click on this link.

Update 07-28-06: I just created a NEW video called Sugarhouse Walk. It’s way better than this one. Click here to find out more:

We have bulk pricing if you order more than one video.
