Strawberry Cottage Cheese Smoothie

Strawberry cottage cheese smoothie by LauraMoncur from FlickrThe other day, I read this article on Diet Blog:

Michael bought a new blender last week, so we have been using it to create a wide variety of smoothies. I had never put cottage cheese in a smoothie, however, so the suggestion from the Diet Blog was surprising to me. I immediately ran into the kitchen to try it out and this is what I created:

  • 1/2 cup cottage cheese
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup frozen strawberries
  • 1 TBSP honey
  • 1 TBSP ground flaxseed

I was pleased with the different flavor that the cottage cheese added. The nutrition facts are approximate. I used 1% milkfat on the cottage cheese and the milk, so if you use skim or full fat, the nutrition facts will change accordingly.

There are so many variations that you can use for fruit smoothies and they are an easy way to eat your dairy and fruit requirements every day. Try this one and then experiment with your own!

I went through a smoothie craze this summer, but never tried cottage cheese. Usually I had fat free milk, and then extra fat free dry milk powder. Blueberries are my favorite to put in them, along with a bit of fresh spinach. But the fruit to put in them gets expensive! Strawberries aren’t as expensive–I’ll give this recipe a shot!

Like Misty above I also was for some time on a craze about smoothies. They are the best as far as I’m concerned. Mostly because they can be fashioned in any way that pleases you. Just like your creation above. My goal was primarily to pack as much nutrition into one meal as possible without eating a large amount of food. Proteins, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and all the rest of the good stuff could be packed into one super size shake in about five minutes. My problem was keeping enough of the right ingredients stocked in my refrigerator. I was always running out of fresh fruit for my smoothies but I suppose that’s a small price to pay for such a fantastic meal. And on top of everything else, like you say, if you make them right they taste great. Of course I had my fair share of disasters too. All in all, smoothies are the way to go for a fast healthy meal in no time at all.
