Question of the Week: Halloween Candy

By Laura Moncur @ 5:00 am — Filed under:

The Halloween aisle is a long black and orange enticement at the grocery store. What are you going to do about it this year?

When do you buy Halloween candy?

Are you really buying it for the kids or is the “first wave” for you and you don’t want to admit it?

What are your favorite Halloween candy flavors?

Are those the flavors that you buy “for the kids”?

Are there good uses for Halloween candy?

The Question of the Week is meant to be an Inner Workout for you. Find some time during the week and allow yourself to write the answers to the questions posted. You can write them on paper, on a word processor or here in the comments section. Whatever works for you as long as you do it.

Keep writing until you find out something about yourself that you didn’t know before. I’ve also heard that it works to keep writing until you cry, but that doesn’t really work for me. Whatever works for you. Just keep writing until it feels right.

I go through the many variations between the extremes when it comes to Halloween candy. I’ve been known to buy the chocolate bars, so that I can enjoy them along with the few kids that are lucky enough to get some. I’ve also been known to turn off the porch light and close the windows (i.e. not bring any candy into the house at all).

One other tactic is to try and purchase candy at the last possible moment. Yes, I’m sometimes one of those people at the grocery store who end up sorting through the worst of the worst (or the over-priced).

Yet another idea is that I buy candies that I don’t necessarily like. Please note my use of the word “necessarily” – for I will eat sugar in it’s many varied forms, but some forms make it less enticing than others.

I haven’t answered any of your questions, but I kind of like keeping you on your toes.

  2. Eh... not so much Says:

My husband’s a bit of a Scrooge when it comes to Halloween, so we don’t buy candy or give anything out on the day. He turns off the porchlights and hides out in his office in the back of the house. Oh well. At least that’s one eating holiday I don’t have to worry about!

I like calorie friendly Halloween candy in case no one comes.

I like suckers candy cheap gum. I love candy corn and could eat a whole bag. So I’d need a few friends to split it.

I get mini chocolate from time to time so I am not aching for it Halloween. Though mmmm I might get some mixtures and freeze them.

A little candy every now and then won’t hurt anyone. It’s eating the stuff as a habit that causes so many people to gain weight.

God……….CANDY APPLES with NUTS. This is the only time of the year I eat them even though I know a place about 10 miles from where I live that makes them year around (about 10 different varieties).

I have had six so far. I count them as part of my fruit. My sister thinks that that is hilarious.
