Question of the Week

By Laura Moncur @ 5:00 am — Filed under:

I am introducing a new feature. Every Monday morning, I will post the Question of the Week. These questions are meant to be Inner Workouts. They are questions that can help you get to the bottom of the reason you don’t take the best care of yourself. Most of these questions will concentrate on overeating and bingeing because that is the problem that I have. It has been my nemesis, and I still need weekly Inner Workouts about this issue.

I recommend that you get a blank piece of paper (or pull up your word processor) and just keep writing about these questions until you find out something about yourself that you didn’t know before. I plan on posting the questions in the morning and posting my write-up on the question in the afternoon.

You are welcome to post your answers to this question in the comments. The more stories we have about each issue, the more we’ll all learn in this process.

What do you think is your strongest asset when you are successful at taking care of yourself?

I think that my strongest asset is looking and feeling proud and strong that I have taken time to take care of myself. I haven’t been doing that lately. I find that I over eat alot. I am trying to lose weight but I can’t seem to do that.

  2. Marc Mason Says:

I feel good when my body is firm and I feel light and energetic. My best asset is the ability to appreciate when I am in good shape.

  3. You Can Do It ! Says:

“MEDITATION” is my most strongest asset. I do it as if my doctor has said “Take this four times a day”. Morning, noon, evening and before bed. I consider my “goal” and work out a plan. Break it down into parts, post it where I can see it upon rising and meditate on the step of the day. My meditation takes no longer than 3 minutes. For example: I went to the movies yesterday to watch “16 Blocks”. My goal was to take care of myself by not bingeing on snacks but allow myself 800 calories in junk food. I thought on what I wanted to eat and purchased it before the movies. Chocolate Mini Pretzels 2oz/260 calories, Whoppers 2.75 oz/350 calories and a diet drink which totaled 610 calories. It was not easy especially after viewing the movie because I wanted to continue eating chocolate once home. I went to bed that night feeling depressed and short changed because I really wanted more junk food. However, in the morning, I felt great and was very proud of myself for taking care of myself.

  4. Rebecca Myers Says:

I believe my strongest asset when I am eating right and am feeling successful in taking care of myself is “confidence.” I stand a little straighter and hold my head up a little higher because I know I am able to do what I know I should be doing. If I binge or over indulge I feel defeated and it takes a little while to get that confidence back. Being confident is very important because if you don’t have it, you will fail. Every little success builds confidence and after a while, even if you slip you can still feel confident that you will get back on track.

  5. Darice Says:

When I’m successful at taking care of myself, my strongest asset is my desire to keep going. Each new success, whether it’s a pound lost or a new recipe found or a way to work a favorite food into my week’s points allotment or a pair of formerly tight shorts that now hang low, is an incentive to keep going, and I actively want to keep going.

(The ugly flip side is that I have had to learn to greet “failures” — an off week, pounds gained, etc.) with the same “keep going!” optimism, and that’s been harder… but I’ve done that, too.)
