Welcome to Starling Fitness

Welcome to Starling Fitness! We’ll be posting daily here about fitness, diet, exercise programs and gadgets, and health. If you’re looking for a place to get great ideas for losing weight or staying in shape, or just want a daily reminder that fitness is important, be sure to bookmark this site.

About the Site

This site’s main theme is physical fitness—whether that means losing weight, building strength, or maintaining general good health. We know that becoming and staying fit is hard work, so you won’t hear about any miracle drugs or fad diets here. We also believe that fitness can be fun, which is why we spend time talking about unconventional approaches like fitness-related video games.

This is a weblog, so what you’re reading is the personal opinion of the writers. Like most weblogs, it’s updated frequently. We try to post at least one item every weekday. This site officially launched on December 23, 2004, although we have included some earlier content previously published on Laura’s personal site.

Laura Moncur, lead writer

Laura MoncurLaura has been writing online for over seven years. She maintains the Motivational Quotations collection at The Quotations Page and has written many articles for the site, starting in 1997. She launched her personal weblog in 2003 and has written almost every day since then.

All of the content of this site dated before December 23, 2004 was originally published on Laura’s personal site. To find out more about Laura’s perspective on fitness and weight loss, read her weight loss story.

Laura lives with her husband, Michael (see below) in Salt Lake City, Utah. She works as a secretary at an electrical engineering firm. When she isn’t working or writing for weblogs, she enjoys writing fiction, painting, and singing.

Michael Moncur, designer and writer

Michael Moncur has been working with computers since discovering them in school in the 80s. His first website, The Quotations Page, was launched in 1994 and is now the Web’s most popular famous quotations site. He has written several computer books and runs a number of other sites, including his technology weblog, figby.com.

Michael works full time writing books and managing Web sites. He designed the layout for this site and writes an occasional entry. In his spare time he enjoys creating and listening to electronic music, photography, houseplants, origami, and video games, and is trying to add more calorie-burning hobbies to that list.

A note about Advertising

We support this site through unobtrusive advertisements. Currently we use Google’s AdSense network to provide ads. The ads are automatically served based on keywords on our pages. We do not choose the ads or endorse any advertiser. If you object to any advertisement displayed here, please contact us. The fitness and diet fields have long been a popular place for dubious claims about miracle drugs, diets, and fitness gadgets. We recommend that you research any claims made by advertisers before spending your money. QuackWatch is a good place to look if you suspect that a product may be too good to be true.
