The iPhone 3G uses Assisted-GPS (aka A-GPS, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assisted_GPS) when the 3G connection is active. Perhaps the iPhone has issues in your area using A-GPS. Turning off 3G will kick it back to plain old GPS.

Thanks for the update. The lag response time was killing me because I'm not very patient.

Turning off the 3G works like a charm (maybe someone will report this bug to Apple).

Wow the runkeeper looks pretty promising, and for ten bucks I will try it out - I dont even have the nike+ will have to pick that up too, when I run I dont track anything I am just guessing how far I go, this will help me actually set goals :)

Whoever dropped the Fitnio advertisement comment obviously has never used the RunKeeper app because it has always allowed the user to answer a call mid-run without losing data. I've been using RunKeeper since August and answer phone calls all the time during tracking and it does an automatic pause and let's you resume tracking afterward. That comment Brian is outright false!

Its funny every time I buy an iPod I swear the next month a new and better iPod comes out for less money.

Now I feel that way about iPhone Apps :D
Two weeks ago I bought RunKeeper and today a friend showed me "Fitnio" on his iPhone it does everything RunKeeper does and is FREE

I was excited to see that Fitnio also keeps track of calories burned, has a cycling mode and lets me answer a call without losing my data. I just clicked on the little fitnio button again and it asked me if i wanted to continue my run.

Awesome!

MapMyRun is coming out with it's own iPhone version, iMapMy, in the next couple of weeks. It appears to have more features than RunKeeper. But RunKeeper is dedicated to improving its programming. They just added an elevation profile.

I think my biggest concern would be the battery life. Three hours is what the RunKeeper FAQ says. That's not enough for even a half marathon for me. Most of my long training walks would drain it completely.

I've been using AllSportGPS for my Blackberry for the past month and it is GREAT. A three hour walk only used 1/3 of the battery life, so it could very likely go a full marathon. But I'd be really mad if my tunes conked out in the last couple of miles!!!!!

So I just recently purchased this app, and so excited that I did. I've been a runner for a few years now, and this has been the easiest to view my runs. It automatically syncs and saves my runs. I used to always go out and run or plan a run prior with mapmyrun.com, but this is so much easier. No I get out and go. At first I had my 3G off and the gps picked awesome, but recently I had a few problems with the accuracy of my runs. Wish I had read this first. For now I will turn off 3G. I totally recommend this app. Worth the money.
