@plough. I'm Australian and the first time I heard this described as toad in the hole was yesterday. When I was growing up we called this 'Egyptian's eye' (why, I have no idea). Toad in the hole has always been sausages in a yorkshire pudding batter.

Hey mate. ITs called toad in a hole here in Australia and always will be. That pork snag dish has never been heard of untill it was spread around on the internet.

...otherwise known as a Hole in One. My mom used to make those whenever we went camping. They were kind of a treat, because we never had them unless we were camping!
