John,

You don't need to buy the Nike+ shoes or iPod to log your miles on Runner+. That's the cool thing about the website. You can compete without shelling out a lot of money!

I need to buy me some of those shoes!

Are they reliable? Because if I put down that much money I don't want them breaking a month or two down the road.

Laura, thank you for bringing your challenges to RUNNER+! Remember that the challenge feature is still in beta, so if you find anything that doesn't look right please let me know so I can fix it!

Thanks,
Chris

Yes, you can just do walking. There is no speed requirement.

If you are going to walk more than the level's limit, then you should go up a level. Don't hurt yourself, however. Paradoxically, limits can help you grow stronger without injury.

I looked at this more and am a little confused as to in what 'spirit' I should do the goal. We've been biking most of the summer and let our walking/running slack off to the point where I'm going to be walking for a while before I get back into running. However, I can walk pretty darn far if I want to. Like I said, we've been biking instead, so I signed up for the level 1. But if I put my mind to it, I'm liable to go out and walk 15 miles the first week. Should I be joining a challenge for how much I think I can walk? Should I try to exceed my level?
