Several weeks ago, I was thinking about getting to a healthy BMI and started calculating. When I figured out that I could get there late next winter, around the 25th anniversary of my dad's death from a heart attack...that's become a strong motivator. When I went through a low stretch a week or so ago, I actually used that specifically to remind me what I'm doing this for.

When I was a kid, my mother emphasized his smoking as a causal factor -- and I've never even touched a cigarette. So I know that can be a motivator.

And as I get older, I realize that his type-A personality and excess weight were also factors, and I don't want to die at 45, so I'm working on those things in myself too.

I'm hoping it'll continue to help me get over the short-term moments of low motivation.

Motivation for me depends on what is going on in my life at the time. I know the feeling you are talking about - it feels great - you want to eat right and love it, you want to exercise and even look forward to it! I want that feeling back - it frustrates me to know that it does come and go - I'm at a not so good place - it's a struggle right now. And nothing specific has changed, I still want to lose more weight and love the feeling I get when I can get into a smaller size - but why is it so hard to go to exercise? Or stop eating that ice cream right now? If we ever figure out a way to bottle that euporic feeling - we could be rich - hehe!
