You should look at this a positive discovery. If you can't do it on your own and need assistance than you are better off than a lot of people who have no clue how to obtain their goals. You at the very least know your own weakness but more importantly how to compensate for the weakness (going to weight watchers). I commend you!

I don't actually attend meetings, but I keep track of everything I do related to weightloss on my blog. I have enough people checking it (including a friend who is a WW leader, and a cousin who is a personal trainer), I have my own support group.

Laura:

I agree wholeheartedly. I lost over 100 lbs on weightwatchers and when I reached my goal, started going to meetings irregularly - and have gained a dozen back. I've returned to attending regulary for the personal and joint accountability.

@iportion: I'd encourage you to try an online plan. We built Simpleweight.com to make it simple to measure your progress, and we plan to have some new creative club features that will try to help you build your own community for weigh-ins.

@Freya: I don't know if this helps, but there has been quite a bit of research that recommends weighing yourself daily. Maybe you should try daily weigh-ins and make it public on your blog? Some people get depressed when they see the fluctuations in weight, but I find daily weigh-ins are great as long as I focus my thoughts on my weight trend.

I am thinking of joining online or joining calorieking in the fall.

I was able to maintain for a while after my meetings but it's so easy to get off track.
I think not the plan but the meetings or the message boards for online WW. The support and the regular weigh ins.

Congratulations on rejoining and feeling confident again :)
Structured weight loss like Weight Watchers never worked for me because after joining 8 times I finally figured out that I was either starving myself the day of the weigh in, even if I went to an evening meeting I wouldn't eat at all because I figured that if I ate during the day and drank my water, my weight loss/gain that weigh in would be inaccurate and I would leave disappointed after being told better luck next week if the scales had shown a gain and I'd want to scream that it was because I'd been eating during the day.
I really admire people who can do it this way, I wish I could but I can't get my head around weighing in after eating all day
Good luck :)

When I get my child care piece taken care of, maybe Weight Watchers would help me - I know that going to the gym three to four times a way keeps me connected to people that also want to either lose weight OR become more fit, stronger. It takes the isolation away... for me.

I have a feeling you'll do GREAT since you know what to do just need a nudge from others that understand.

I hope that's your tracker! Because it's good for me to see what other people are eating to be successful (including the ice cream).

Weight Watchers has been good for me, too. I'm glad you're finding your groove rather easily.

Glad to hear you are back on track.

In my opinion, it is the accountability. With Weight watchers, you hold yourself accountable for your meetings.

Are there ways to replicate without weight watchers? I'd say so. You can build your own weight management support group where you meet online via a chat room or via email every week or something. You can post your specifics and let the community support you.

Are you sure it's not just the tracking of everything that helps too?
