Question of the Week: How To Exercise AND Have Fun

By Laura Moncur @ 5:00 am — Filed under:

A while back, I wrote an entry about exercise:

Just last week, I had a comment left on that entry from Mysti:

“Hi I am starting to begin working out again and one of the reasons I quit last time is because I didn’t like my workout. Does anybody have any ideas of some really fun excersizes?”

I because exercise enjoyment is such an individual thing, I really didn’t have an answer for her, so I’m opening up the forum to you:

What exercises do you do?

Are they fun?

What is fun about them?

Why do you like to do them?

Answering these questions on the comments will not only help Mysti, but they will help you, too. If you have to answer, what is fun about your exercise and you don’t have anything to say about it, maybe it’s time to find a new one. If you have a lot to say, that’s wonderful. You suddenly have a list of things to remember about your favorite activity when you’re not feeling like getting started.

Giving myself prizes for exercise is kind of fun. I also love to change my workout when it gets too dull. Yourrself! Fitness is a lot of fun and a really cool workout.

Try linedance ! It is good exercise, fun, you meet a lot of people (maybe make a few friends)and you get to dance to some really good happy music.

Any cardio need to be done with your favorite music (Ipod, radio, etc.). By having headphones, you help youself to not hear your heavy breath, plus music is always fun. I, actually do my weights with music too.

Anything that dosen’t feel like work can give you a great workout and keep you motivated. I like to rollerblade around my neighborhood. It usually ends up being a 5 mile radius, but the best part about it is the big hills and the shaded areas. I just listen to my Ipod and do my own thing! Dancing is a great exercise too. Depending on what type of dance you can burn around 200 calories in 30 minutes!!! Make it a date with your friends one night a week or with your partner. Also team sports are always fun and someone is always there to motivate you along the way. Try a childhood classic like dodgeball or kickball.

I like to ride my bike to work and that has lost it’s fun a long time ago. Now to make my riding fun I throw the kids in the trailer and we see how many parks we can hit. Then while we are at the park I can stretch (something I know I should do but don’t at home).

Also any new sport is always fun becasue I have no expectations for how good I should be at it.

    DANCE!
