Yesterday when I tried to run my shins hurt so much I ended up walking most of the way, and quitting early. I've picked up the Chi Running book (www.chirunning.com) and I'm going to try this stretch as well.

I also have similar pain every time i run or walk long distances. The pain might be coming from you Anterior Tibialis muscle, on the front lateral side of your shin. Explanation is a slight twisting of the foot as you walk /run. Eversion/Inversion. One solution which worked for me was to insert hard supports on the inside of my shoes, restriction certain movements. Although am i not completely sure about this, it might be quite helpful to go to running shops and ask bout this. Think Saucony runnning shoes have good supportive walls..
Hope this helps in one way or the other.

I'm going to give this a try. I instruct Karate (club based hobby) as well as train on my own and am at it about 15 to 20 hours per week. When I'm training this much, I end up with extremely sore arches, to the point that I have a hard time walking in the morning.

I'm hoping this works.

Thanks,
George Story
