StrengthCast – Dr. Scott Erichsen Interview

By Laura Moncur @ 6:00 pm — Filed under:

This StrengthCast is an interview with Dr. Scott Erichsen, a “family” chiropractic practitioner. Brought online to talk about how chiropractic care can help althetes, his interview includes the full spectrum of quackery in the chiropractic industry.

This speaker says that he recommends practicing on babies as young as 8 months old. He attacks the medical industry, saying that “It’s a business.” He promotes the idea that everyone needs regular chiropractic manipulations for good health. He liberally throws around the word “subluxations” without mentioning that there is no scientific proof of their existence. He even goes so far to say that chiropractic manipulations can boost your immunity.

Don’t bother with this interview and read Quackwatch’s Series on Chiropractic Quackery instead.

Care to put your money where your mouth is?

As the host and creator of Strength Radio and an 8 year veteran of the fitness industry I have made it my business to discern and disseminate the truth about diets, weight loss techniques, fitness programs, products and people.

I take a personal umbrage at your sucker punch at Dr. Scott and would like to know if you would care to come on the show to discuss your opinion with me.

    Jason,

I’ve been listening to and reviewing all of your StrengthCasts. I especially liked the Live from Central Park StrengthCast from a couple of weeks ago. I have a review of it coming up on Friday afternoon.

After listening to the Central Park podcast, I realized that you need to stop interviewing people and just perform motivational speaking on your own. You are so much better at motivational speaking than you are at interviewing. Your talent must come from your years as a personal trainer.

I really thought the chiropractic interview was going to be focused on athletic chiropractic care (more along the lines of physical therapy), but your speaker very quickly stepped into quackland. It’s not your fault that your speaker isn’t perfect. So few people are. Your motivational speaking, however, has the ability to be mind-blowing.

    Dear Laura,

I read your review about Dr. Scott Erichsen’s interview with Strength Radio, and after looking through your site, I am still bewildered about your ultimate motivations and the actual mission of your company. I understand this is a blog and you’re entitled to your opinion, as am I or anyone else. But, as an avid Weight Watcher member and circuit trainee at 24 hour fitness, how exactly do you find the audacity to denote Dr. Scott’s interview as quackery? I can only deduce it to a bad experience with a chiropractor that left a bad taste in your mouth.

As far as the medical community being a “business”…if you don’t understand that doctors pay for the fancy cars from the prescriptions they write after only spending five minutes with a patient, then you probably need to spend some time with a drug rep to fully understand the “business.”

As for scientific proof of subluxations, just ask anyone who has been diagnosed with one how scientific their pain is. And, if you truly know anything about the fitness field, you understand that much of what is real and results-based, hasn’t been proven by science yet.

Next time you’re on the east coast, take a ride by Dr. Scott’s Family Chiropractic Office, and you’ll see just how warm and welcoming his service really is. Oh, and be sure to read all of the testimonials his clients share.

Lastly, I’ve been interviewed by Jason White, so feel free to check out mine as well. I’m interested in what you have to say about that too.
